Moisture meter

Seng Fong uses both different type and brands of handheld moisture meters and found out that these instruments where inaccurate compared with the oven-dry method for measuring their tropical hardwood.

The methods they used are according the EN13183 Standards 1, 2 and 3.

  • EN13183-1 Moisture content of a piece of sawn timber – Part 1: Determination by oven dry method
  • EN13183-2 Moisture content of a piece of sawn timber – Part 2: Estimation by electrical resistance method
  • 3 Moisture content of a piece of sawn timber – Part 3: Estimation by capacitance method

Therefore Seng Fong was looking for a supplier with the knowledge how to measure the moisture content of wood and how to make dedicated settings for the various species used by Seng Fong.

Brookhuis has the knowledge and experience of making settings and calibration lines for both resistance type and capacitance type handheld moisture meters. The result is that with dedicated settings Seng Fong can estimate the moisture content of their various wood  species with an accuracy of <1% for the resistance type meters and <2% for the capacitance type meters. Seng Fong is now transforming the all handheld moisture meters into Brookhuis
